The Call Within: Dismantling Racism from the Inside Out

Though the horrors of American racism can be seen in the media, on our streets, and in our institutions, this course will help us to take a cold, hard look at our interior lives and at the heart-stuff from which racism flows. How can what we face about the heart heal our nation? How can we, with a revolution of human consciousness, fix American racism?

With James Baldwin as inspiration, this offering is a theoretical and practical course for people of all ethnicities about how to dismantle racism from the inside out.

Rev. Jacqui Lewis, Ph.D. and Anu Gupta lead a conversation about Isabel Wilkerson’s award-winning book Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents. In the book, Wilkerson connects America’s own caste system to racial hierarchies in India and Nazi Germany, and how its evil continues to corrupt our national life. Together, Jacqui and Anu talk about how the book helps us better understand this political moment, and how we can begin to heal.
